Upcoming Tests and Quizzes:
Writing STAAR - Tuesday, 4/6
Princess and the Goblin Test - Thursday, 4/8
Decimals Quiz (Hundredths) - Monday, 4/12
ELA:
We have officially finished The Princess and the Goblin! We have enjoyed this adventure together so immensely. We have had such profound discussions about courage, curiosity, and human connection. We are looking forward to a test over the book next Thursday (April 8th) for the scholars to show what they have learned and how they have grown from reading this great book. Because the STAAR writing test is on Tuesday (April 6th) we want to let you know that all review and preparation will occur in class. If scholars have been paying attention and participating throughout the novel, they will succeed on this test. Please email Ms. Conlon with any questions! Our next Classic-to-Keep is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. We encourage your scholar to have their copy ready by Monday, April 12th. This novel will be our last of the year! Note: Next week in Spalding, we will only be learning 20 words due to the STAAR test on Tuesday.
Math:
Scholars have continued working hard on their decimals. This week, we focused on adding in hundredths and looked at real life connections to how we represent money. Scholars began working on factors of 100 to help them equate fractions and decimals. They did an excellent job on their tenths, and we will keep practicing expanded form and notation with our hundredths next week!
History:
Hello historians! We had another great week of learning about American history and the lives of colonists. Students practiced working in groups to learn about the rights of a colonist and discussed how life was different in each colony. Next week, we will begin learning about the events that led to the Declaration of Independence. Have a great weekend.
Science:
Hello scientists! We have started our new unit for science, Using Natural Resources. We started the week by filling out a vocabulary chart to prepare for our new unit and students were able to quiz each other on the new terms. Then we learned about the difference between non-renewable and renewable resources. Next week, we will focus on learning about fossil fuels and the effects that they have on our environment. Have a great weekend!
