End of Quarter - Quiz and Test corrections
The end of the quarter is coming up next week! Please ensure that any test or quiz corrections are returned to your homeroom teacher at their due dates and before the end of next week. If you have concerns about grades, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.
Lanyards for Masks
If you have a lanyard for your scholar to use for their mask, please send them in with one on Monday. It is not mandatory but can help keep masks with scholars especially on days when they are eating outside and it is windy.
Field Day Volunteers and Class Chants
Some volunteers are still needed to help out with Field Day! If you are interested in helping out, please contact kori.johnson@greatheartswesternhills.org. Classes are also coming up with their chants for their city states. The teachers in 4A are interested to see what their scholars come up with for Corinth! Please start brainstorming and come with ideas on Monday!
Poem Postponed
Please continue encouraging your scholar to practice “Paul Revere’s Ride.” We will be postponing the due date so that students have ample time to master the poem, TBD.

ELA:
This week has been another wonderful adventure as the scholars develop their Language Arts skills. The students had such rich conversations about wisdom, understanding, and courage. They have been so invested in this story, often groaning when we have to stop a chapter! It is thrilling to see how much they are enjoying the adventures of Irene, Curdie, and the goblins. Scholars will also continue to practice editing/revising skills, focusing on combining sentences and correcting errors with punctuation and capitalization. Additionally, we will continue working on essay-writing, focusing on organization and idea generation. We can’t wait to see your scholars grow this week!
Math:
Scholars worked hard this week back from our break reviewing the concepts we have covered so far. They persevered through a difficult unit test and worked on correcting problems together in class. We finished out this week starting a new unit on decimals, which scholars have encountered previously. They did excellent work reading out the numbers with our new place value and will get more practice with their “tenths” next week! Please continue to encourage math facts practice at home to build multiplication and division fluency.
History:
Hello historians! We have been moving into American history and have begun discussing the colonists. We talked about who the colonists are and where they came from, and we talked about indentured servants and enslaved Africans. I have been so impressed with the questions that students have asked and how curious they are about history. Next week, we will review for a small quiz, before moving onto the rights of the colonists.
Science:
Hello scientists! We have finished our investigating waves unit. We talked about invisible waves and using codes and signals, this week. Students were excited to understand how televisions and phones send signals and work. We will be reviewing for the unit test next week, and students will take their test on Friday.
