Thursday, March 4th - Math Quiz - Unit 5 Ch. 3: Area and Perimeter of Composite Figures

ELA:

It has been yet another wonderful week with the Fourth Grade students in English and Language Arts. Scholars are officially halfway through The Princess and the Goblin! We have been so impressed with the scholar’s deep understanding of the book’s themes. Scholars have learned that courage is greater than any fear, that people are more important than things, and that true old age means strength, wisdom, courage, and beauty. [We make sure to remind them of that last one often. :)] In Writing, students have been practicing how to connect complete thoughts properly and how to write a strong paragraph. Students have also been working on analyzing interrogative sentences in Grammar. They have shown a wonderful understanding of the parts of speech and how words work together to convey meaning. This coming week, we look forward to seeing just how much they know on their upcoming grammar quiz (3/4/21). We cannot wait to see your scholars develop this week!

Math:

Scholars worked hard this week in math reviewing concepts in area and perimeter before displaying their knowledge with a quiz. We finished the week with a fun interactive activity using notecards to form composite figures. Next week, we will continue applying and exploring skills with area and perimeter with composite figures, including paths (a frame or border created by two rectangles). Scholars will wrap up with a quiz at the end of the week before we leave for break!

History:

We have wrapped up another great week of American history. We have been diving into conversations about European exploration of the Americas, starting with understanding the reasons to explore before learning about three different explorers. Fourth graders were, then, able to create flyers for explorations. Next week, we will continue to discuss exploration, as we discuss Texas missions and the religious implications of European exploration. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to my email! Have a fantastic weekend!

Science:

We have concluded another week of exploring light and sound waves. After our snow week, it was time for a review week, just to ensure our scholars did not lose too much over their break. It was amazing to see that students’ excitement for waves had not faltered, and students felt ready and eager to take a short quiz, to cap off the week. Next week, we will move into deeper conversations on invisible waves.
