Week Six and Returning to Campus!
(9.14 - 9.18)
Good evening! We hope everyone is doing well. Here are our announcements and updates.
Announcements:
Brick and Mortar
For all of our scholars who returned to campus, we hope you enjoyed these first couple of days back in the building! We loved getting to see you in person and dive into our lessons together. Thank you parents as we continue to work out kinks and figure out our systems for balancing Brick and Mortar and Distance Learning.
Adjustments to Google Classroom
As part of our shift into a hybrid classroom, Google Classroom assignments will no longer be mass posted on Sunday night. Everything distance learning scholars will need for each day will show up before their school day starts, but in order to accommodate videos and lessons that will be filmed live, we will not be able to post everything on Sunday.
Changes in Zoom Times
Please review new times that your homeroom teacher has sent out for Zoom small groups. If you have not indicated a specific time that you need, your homeroom teacher will assign a group. These new small group Zooms will only take place twice per week for about 30 minutes each. Zoom links will be posted in Google Classroom.
Read on for a quick update on our class subjects!
_______________
ELA:
This week, scholars practiced using helping verbs with a fun picture activity and continued reading King Arthur. Scholars are practicing making predictions as they follow along with the story. We also started in List Q for new spelling words. We’ll continue with King Arthur and work on “The Tyger” next week!
Math:
This coming week in math, scholars will be reviewing everything they have learned so far. On Tuesday, they will take a cumulative test covering Unit 2. Following this, we will begin a deep dive into the four operations. We also encourage scholars to continue practicing their multiplication facts for 4 and 5!
History:
This week, scholars have been working hard to learn more about the Roman Empire and we have finally learned how the Roman Empire came back together. We began the week, talking about Charlemagne and how his relationship with the Pope helped to bring the Empire together to create the Holy Roman Empire! We also completed a history review, which is important because we have a quiz next week! After our quiz we will introduce the different classes in medieval history. Thank you, all, for being so gracious during our first days of Brick and Mortar school! You are amazing!
Science:
For science this week, we finished out our geology unit by talking about landslides. Scholars learned that landslides can be triggered by all sorts of things like water, gravity, or other natural hazards. We reviewed our past lessons to get ready for a quiz on Wednesday. Next week, we’ll take our quiz and then begin talking about meteorology and the phases of the moon!
